The Verve was an English rock band formed in Wigan in 1989. The band consisted of Richard Ashcroft (vocals), Nick McCabe (guitar), Simon Jones (bass), and Peter Salisbury (drums). They are best known for their 1997 album “Urban Hymns,” which features the hit singles “Bitter Sweet Symphony” and “The Drugs Don’t Work.” The Verve’s music is characterized by its atmospheric soundscapes, psychedelic influences, and Ashcroft’s distinctive vocals. The band experienced several lineup changes and a period of hiatus before disbanding in 2009. Despite their relatively short career, The Verve’s impact on British rock music has been significant, and they are regarded as one of the defining bands of the Britpop era. Their music continues to inspire and influence new generations of musicians.
