Soundgarden was an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1984. The band’s original lineup consisted of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Hiro Yamamoto, and drummer Matt Cameron. Soundgarden was one of the pioneers of the grunge movement in the early 1990s and helped to popularize alternative metal. Their music was known for its heavy guitar riffs, complex rhythms, and Chris Cornell’s powerful vocals. Some of their most popular songs include “Black Hole Sun,” “Spoonman,” and “Fell on Black Days.” The band broke up in 1997 but reunited in 2010 and continued to perform until Cornell’s death in 2017.
