Prince & The New Power Generation was a backing band formed by the American musician Prince in 1990. The group was created in support of Prince’s album “Diamonds and Pearls” and featured several musicians who had previously worked with him, including keyboardist Tommy Barbarella, bassist Sonny T., and drummer Michael Bland. The New Power Generation was known for their tight, funk-inspired sound and high-energy live shows, which often featured elaborate choreography and costumes. The group released several albums with Prince throughout the 1990s, including “Diamonds and Pearls,” “Love Symbol Album,” and “Come.” In addition to their work with Prince, The New Power Generation also collaborated with other artists, including Madonna and Mavis Staples. Prince continued to perform and record with various lineups of The New Power Generation until his death in 2016.
