Onyx by Monotype is a font based on the logo from the music group Nirvana.
Nirvana was an American rock band formed in 1987 by lead vocalist and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic. The band achieved massive success in the early 1990s with their second album “Nevermind”, which featured the hit single “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. Nirvana’s music was characterized by their raw, grunge sound, which combined elements of punk and heavy metal with introspective and often dark lyrics. Cobain’s songwriting explored themes of alienation, social criticism, and personal struggle, resonating with a generation of disaffected youth. Nirvana’s success had a profound impact on popular culture, ushering in a new era of alternative and grunge music. The band’s career was cut short when Cobain died by suicide in 1994, but their music continues to influence and inspire generations of artists.
