Disney’s The Lion King franchise is a multimedia phenomenon that began with the 1994 animated feature film. The original movie tells the story of Simba, a lion cub who grows up to reclaim his destiny as king of the Pride Lands after the death of his father, Mufasa. Praised for its stunning animation, compelling narrative, and music by Elton John and Tim Rice, the film became a cultural milestone and one of Disney’s most beloved works.

The franchise has since expanded significantly, including a successful Broadway musical in 1997, which features groundbreaking puppetry and African-inspired music by Lebo M. and Hans Zimmer. Additional entries include two direct-to-video sequels (The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride and The Lion King 1½), a 2019 photorealistic remake, and spin-offs like the animated series Timon & Pumbaa and The Lion Guard. Upcoming is Mufasa: The Lion King (2024), a prequel exploring Mufasa’s backstory​.
