Alice in Chains is an American rock band that formed in Seattle, Washington in 1987. The band’s original lineup consisted of vocalist Layne Staley, guitarist Jerry Cantrell, bassist Mike Starr, and drummer Sean Kinney.

Alice in Chains rose to fame in the early 1990s with their distinctive sound that blended heavy metal, grunge, and acoustic elements. Their music often explored dark themes such as addiction, depression, and death, and their haunting vocal harmonies and heavy riffs set them apart from their contemporaries.

The band’s breakthrough came with their second album, “Dirt,” which was released in 1992 and featured hit songs like “Rooster,” “Down in a Hole,” and “Would?”. The album was critically acclaimed and helped to solidify Alice in Chains’ place as one of the most influential bands of the grunge era.

Tragically, lead vocalist Layne Staley died in 2002 after struggling with addiction for many years. The band went on hiatus for several years before reforming in 2005 with new lead vocalist William DuVall.

Since then, Alice in Chains has released several successful albums, including “Black Gives Way to Blue” in 2009 and “The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here” in 2013. Their music continues to be beloved by fans and has inspired countless other bands in the years since their debut.
