Whammy! is an American television game show that aired from 2002 to 2006. The show was a reboot of the classic 1980s game show Press Your Luck, and was hosted by Todd Newton.
In Whammy!, contestants competed to win cash and prizes by answering trivia questions and then spinning a game board that featured various cash and prize amounts, as well as “Whammies” – cartoon characters that would take away a contestant’s winnings if landed on. The show’s format and gameplay were very similar to Press Your Luck, but featured updated graphics and a modernized set design.
Whammy! became known for its fast-paced gameplay and exciting bonus rounds, in which contestants could win big prizes such as cars and trips. The show also featured various themed weeks, such as “College Week” and “Teen Week,” which allowed younger contestants to compete and win prizes.
Despite its popularity, Whammy! was eventually cancelled in 2006 due to declining ratings. However, the show has since gained a cult following among game show fans and has been praised for its high-energy gameplay and fun atmosphere.
